Mana Oori Ramayanam is a matured novel attempt to deliver something new to Telugu audience. Starring versatile actor Prakash Raj and Priyamani in the lead roles, the film is directed by Prakash Raj himself and let us see if the film gets the approval and nod from Telugu audience.
The movie is set in a typical patriarchal society and Prakash Raj plays the father of a teenage daughter, and tries to get her married off as soon as possible. He is also the most respectable and reputed member in the society. The story takes cues from Ramayana and the characters depict the same. His family members call him Ravana due to his strict mentality and control mindedness. Prakash Raj gets into an unexpected fight with family one night and gets drunk. He gets to encounter Priyamani, a prostitute and things take interesting turn from then. This chance encounter is what forms the gist of the story and how Prakash Raj gets out of the situation without affecting his reputation is for you to watch on screen.
Known to be a versatile actor with great expressions and performances, Prakash Raj has proved his worth yet again with this film. He has delivered multiple emotions like anger, guilt, happiness, ecstasy, all at the same time and did a great job. He literally shouldered the responsibility of entire film on himself. Priyamani makes screen presence with this film after a long time and she does a good job, though one might feel that her acting abilities have been under-utilized. Prudhvi and Satyadev play crucial roles in this film and gain the attention of audience, and the scenes between them evoke laughter among audience.
Prakash Raj, as a director too for this film has not done complete justice as much as he did to acting. He failed to keep the script engaging and intriguing except for few twists, which makes the film lack lusture. However, he is known for micro detailing and has taken care of every aspect of the film with utmost care and established characters well giving reference to Ramayanam, which indeed is a unique feat. The camera work is decent and showcases the village atmosphere in a good way. Ilayaraja’s music is commendable and backed up the entire film’s proceedings in a great manner. However, the film is strictly for select audiences, who have it in them to appreciate and judge such films.
